Brow PMU Unveiled: The 3 Most Popular Questions Answered!

Do you have thin, or sparse brows that you want to improve, but don't know which service you should go with? In this blog post, I will go over the most common questions I encounter when helping clients decide which service to go for.

There are many questions when it comes to Brow PMU, but today I would like to focus on top 3 questions that I get asked the most, so your purpose to find out what you like to do with your brows becomes clearer.

Here are the 3 top questions I get asked the most when it comes to Brow PMU:

  1. What is microblading, and is it right for me?

  2. I’ve had my brows done before, but I don’t like the shape (or Color) Can you fix it?

  3. What are Combo brows? Which is better, microblading or combo brows?

1. Microblading has become increasingly well known in the recent years among other permanent makeup procedures, but it can be easily confused with other similar services.

Unlike motorized techniques, microblading is a manual method where skilled PMU artists use a specialized tool to meticulously etch hair-like strokes that mimic your natural brow hair pattern. The goal is to achieve naturally full-looking brows without a heavy, made-up appearance.

During the process, pigment is carefully placed into small incisions in the epi-dermal layer of the skin. After the procedure, it's crucial for clients to keep the treated area covered with ointment and keep it dry during the healing phase. Activities that cause sweating, such as saunas or steam saunas, should be avoided to ensure the pigment remains in place and the treatment is successful.

It's worth noting that microblading may not be suitable for everyone. The effectiveness of the technique can depend on your skin type. Drier skin tends to yield crispier results, while individuals with thicker, oilier skin may experience pigment migration beneath the skin's surface, leading to less defined strokes. In such cases, alternative procedures like Combo brows or powder brows may be recommended. Understanding your skin type is essential when considering microblading to achieve the desired outcome.

But what if you have oily skin and still want the natural appearance of hair strokes? In that case, I highly recommend considering Combo brows. This technique incorporates microblading strokes beneath the powder shading, resulting in a more natural look with improved coverage, and at the beginning of the brows, you'll notice minimal powder effect, allowing the hair strokes to become more prominent, and give you the natural microbladed appearance.

2. The second popular question is : I’ve had my brows done before, but I don’t like the shape (or Color) Can you fix it?

When you're thinking about improving your existing Permanent Makeup (PMU), it's a good idea to lighten or remove the old PMU before getting any new work done. Why? Well, if you don't, you might end up with a bit of a mixed look. Over time, as your new brows settle into a more natural color, the old shape can become more noticeable, and that can make you less happy with how everything turns out.

In cases like that, going for laser treatment to remove the old PMU is a smart move. Laser treatment basically breaks down the pigment into tiny pieces that your skin can eventually get rid of. The number of laser sessions you'll need depends on how dark and how much of the old PMU is in your skin. Even if it takes a few sessions, it's totally worth it because you'll get a fresh start without any of that old stuff.

But if your old PMU doesn't clash with your new desired look and the color has faded quite a bit, you can consider microblading if you're on a budget. However, I'd strongly recommend going for Combo brows which I will go over in the next section in more details, but this combo technique helps hide that old, faded color underneath, giving you a final look that matches what you really want without any compromises.

3. What are Combo brows? Which is better microblading or combo brows?

Combo brows, or combination brows, offer a convenient way to achieve natural, long-lasting eyebrows with a little more color than just microblading by itself. This technique combines microblading and soft powder shading for a natural look, making it especially suitable for those with oily skin, and have very sparse eyebrows.

How Combo Brows Work In one session, a skilled PMU artist performs both microblading and powder shading:

  1. Microblading: As explained in the beginning of this blog post, they consist of precise hair-like strokes that are created where your brows need definition, mimicking natural brow hairs.

  2. Powder Shading: This technique creates a soft, powdered finish to the microbladed brow area, enhancing depth and seamlessly blending with your natural brow hair. The powder effect starts subtly at the beginning of the brows and gradually deepens as it extends towards the tail

Why Choose Combo Brows

Longer-Lasting for oilier skin: Combo brows provide extended results with better coverage, making them ideal for those with oily skin, where PMU tends to fade faster.

Covers more area with shadows for very sparse brows : If you have very little amount of brow hair, microblading by itself may not be enough to give the brows their 3d effect. Natural brow hair not only colors the brows but gives brows its depth by dropping shadows in the brow area. By adding powder over the microblading, it will give you the same effect that the shadows create and give you a more defined look with depths.
