5 myths about microblading that you need to know

Updated: Jun 7

You know, there are quite a few myths and misconceptions out there about microblading. It’s essential to clear up these misunderstandings so that people thinking about getting this cosmetic procedure can make informed decisions. Here are the top 5 myths I’ve come across

1. Microblading is permanent: Microblading is a type of permanent makeup, but it's different from traditional tattoos. While both involve depositing pigment, microblading targets the epidermis, a shallow skin layer, whereas tattoos go into the deeper dermis. Additionally, the pigments in permanent makeup, like microblading, have smaller particles and fewer additives, making them designed for the upper skin layers. This gives a semi-permanent effect that fades gradually, necessitating yearly maintenance for services like microblading.

2. Microblading is Painful: While some discomfort is normal, microblading is generally not extremely painful. The blade will only deposit the pigment into the epidermis layer (uppermost layer) of the skin, and technicians use numbing creams or gels to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

3. Microblading is Suitable for Everyone: Microblading may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain skin conditions or medical conditions. Also, if you have previous form of PMU on your brow, you will not achieve that natural hair stroke effect that microblading is famous for. A consultation with a qualified PMU artist is necessary to find out if you are a good candidate. Also, your results from microblading can vary by your skin types. Normal to dry skin is ideal for microblading, on the other side, oily skin may not retain the crisp appearance of the hair strokes. That is why it is important to have a realistic expectations about the outcome. Consulting with a professional and asking questions can help provide a better understanding of what you can achieve with microblading.

4. Microblading is a One-Time Procedure: The final result of microblading may take a few weeks to fully appear as the pigment settles and the skin heals. Immediate post-procedure appearance can be darker and more intense than the final look. Many people believe that microblading is a one-time procedure. However, In reality, it requires at least 1 follow up session to get the final result and a touch-up session typically every 1-2 years to maintain the desired look.

5. Microblading is Maintenance-Free: While it reduces the need for daily brow maintenance, some upkeep is still required. This includes regular touch-up sessions and proper skincare to prolong the results.

In conclusion, it's important to address these common misconceptions about microblading to ensure that anyone considering this cosmetic procedure can make well-informed decisions. Microblading isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, and it's crucial to consult with an experienced PMU artist, like me, to determine if it's right for you.
